ABSTRACT

@#Introduction: Malaria is a vector-borne disease caused by the bites of infected female mosquitoes that transmit the parasite to humans. In Guinea, the entire population is at risk of malaria infection. The objective of this study is to develop, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of the Malaria Free Zone program using the Health Belief Model (HBM) to improve malaria prevention knowledge, attitudes, and practices among university students in Conakry, Guinea. Methods: The study design is a clustered randomized controlled trial (RCT). Students are selected using the clustered sampling method, with each university representing one group, either the intervention or control group. The sample size is 113 university students from each group. The content of the Malaria Free Zone program includes eight sessions, which are based on the HBM constructs. This program takes approximately 6 hours and 30 minutes to complete. Respondents are required to complete a questionnaire over four time points. Generalized Estimating Equation (GEE) will be used to determine the effectiveness of the Malaria Free Zone program on malaria prevention knowledge, attitudes, and practices, adjusted with covariates. Conclusion: It is expected that there will be a significant difference in knowledge, attitude, and practice of malaria prevention in the post-test, 2-week and 2-month follow up of the intervention group after the Malaria Free Zone program. Students in the intervention group will have significant higher knowledge, attitude and practice of malaria prevention compared to students in the control group. ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND:-There is evidence that ART is associated with lipodystrophy syndrome, a disturbance of lipid metabolism characterised by insulin resistance, dyslipidaemia, and fat maldistribution, metabolic bone disease (osteopenia and/or osteoporosis), and lactic acidosis. ART- associated dyslipidaemia is characterized by elevated serum concentrations of total cholesterol, triglycerides, low density lipoprotein 2(LDL-c), very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), and Apo lipoprotein B (apoB) and low levels of high density lipoprotein (HDL-c) constituting an atherogenic lipid 1pro?le . In this study 143 young patients who were attending the Antiretroviral Therapy Plus MATERIAL AND METHODS:- Centre & Medicine Wards, ACSR GMC NELLORE were included randomly. 5ml Sample preparation and Biochemical assay :- of venous blood sample was collected by venipuncture from 12 hours overnight fast and centrifuged at 3000 cycles per minute and serum was separated for lipid pro?le measurement within one hour of blood collection. The serum levels of TC, HDL-C, LDL-C, VLDL and TG were measured using AU480 BECKMANS random access fully automated auto analyzer at Biochemistry laboratory, ACSR GMC, NELLORE. TC, LDL and TC/HDL lipid pro?les are signi?cant. F-Signi?cant values are RESULTS;- <0.05, reject null hypothesis. It means that the difference among the lipid pro?les of TC, LDL and TC/HDL in the study group is statistically signi?cant with respect to regimen groups. HDL, TG and VLDL lipid pro?les are not signi?cant. F-Signi?cant values are >0.05, no evidence to reject null hypothesis. It means that the no signi?cant difference among the lipid pro?les of HDL, TG, and VLDL in the study group is not statistically signi?cant with respect to regimen groups. Signi?cant CONCLUSIONS:- metabolic and morphological alterations occur in HIV infected patients especially in patients on HAART. The patients on HAART had an elevated Castelli Index I, indicating an increased risk for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease in this population. There is need to assess lipid pro?les at baseline before initiation of HAART treatment and lipid pro?le monitoring during therapy to monitor any rising trends. New medications with more lipid friendly pro?les within existing drugs such as darunavir (PI), etravirine (NNRTI), new classes of drugs such as integrase inhibitors (raltegravir) and CCR5 inhibitors (maraviroc) can be used to avoid dyslipidaemia

ABSTRACT

This article aims to reflect on the constitution of new views of the city, and the urban space from an educational experience in the field of leisure and tourism carried out by students of the technical course in Tourism Guide of the Federal Institute of Espírito Santo (Ifes) - Vitória campus, offered in the Education Program for Young People and Adults (EJA). From a theoretical reflection on the limits and potentialities of leisure, as well as its importance for the realization of the right to the city, we sought to demonstrate how an educational experience related to the elaboration of urban tourist itineraries helped students, most of whom from suburban neighborhoods, redefine their views of the city, valuing their cultural identity, living spaces, and former recreation areas.

ABSTRACT

The notion of dangerousness of poor childhood has been constructed, since the hygienist policies of the beginning of the last century, with school as often a solution to social inequality. This was a qualitative-descriptive research, based on individual interviews with workers of a Center for Full-time Education for children and adolescents at risk and social vulnerability, based on the theory of Social Representations. The interviewees' speeches describe children and adolescents as victims of both, the street and their own families, perceived as dangerous and negligent. Emerges the image of a school that not only instructs and teaches but takes care of and protects students from a harsh and cruel reality, students whose families do not have adequate conditions to exercise the necessary care. Thus, such protection is described as important for the defense of society, since poor children and adolescents appear not as being at social risk, but as the risk themselves.

ABSTRACT

Abstract The aim of this study was to assess the impact of a newly developed competency-based marital and relationship education (MRE) program for couples in Curaçao, Dutch Caribbean. In consideration to the 57% divorce rate in Curaçao, and the view that intuition or cohabitation are the sole alternatives to marriage preparation in the Dutch Caribbean, a new additional alternative that is both intellectually defensible and empirically based was proposed. This quasi-experimental study used a sample of 310 participants aged 19-63 years. Using the Solomon design and planned contrast for one-way ANOVA, we compared pre-, post-intervention and follow-up results after 2.5 years of couples in a distress and adjusted group. Statistically significantly increased scores were obtained for (1) marital satisfaction, with an effect size (Cohen's d) of 2.18 for the adjusted group and 4.44 for the distressed group; (2) commitment (adjusted group d = 1.98, distressed group d = 2.90); and (3) the 12 profiled relationship competencies for marital durability (adjusted group d = 1.62, distressed group d = 6.27). Follow-up measurements conducted 2.5 years upon MRE program completion indicated that its effects were durable. We concluded that participation in the Profile of Durable and Successful Couples (PDSC) program resulted in increased marital satisfaction, relationship commitment, and mastery of the 12 profiled family and relationship competencies, that contribute to relationship durability. This implicate that the PDSC program under study can be adopted to prevent relationship erosion, while also assisting those experiencing relationship distress in finding satisfactory solutions. The competency-based focus of the program could be considered the matrix in maximizing the sustainable success of MRE program.

Place and Duration of Study:The study was conducted at Abhitex International Company, Panipat, Haryana, India between November 2018 to January 2019. Methodology:The Clinical blood pressure of the office employees of Abhitex International company, Panipat, between the age group of 35 to 55 years was recorded, following the international guidelines given by American Heart Association(AHA) and American College of Cardiology. Purposive sampling was done and the employees who had clinical blood pressure above 120/80 mm Hg were considered as the samples for the study. The dietary pattern of the samples was evaluated by checking the adherence to the DASH diet which was done through a questionnaire and 3 days 24-hour diet recall. Dietary adherence was assessed using a scoring scheme adoptedby Folsom and colleagues. Samples were made aware of the DASH Diet and post one month the adherence to DASH Diet was again checked and the change in the clinical blood pressure was observed. Results:There were 50 study participants. The mean age of the participants was 41.5 years. The average Systolic blood pressure of the 50 participants in the pre-test was 149.3 mm of Hg and average diastolic blood pressure was 89.58 mm of Hg. Pre Nutrition Education Program, the total mean DASH adherence score was4.3 out of 10 but post NEP and after following DASH Diet, the adherence score for the DASH Diet improved and resulted in 6.7 which indicated that the samples adhered more to the DASH Diet post NEP. There were reductions in systolic (149.30±18.98 mmHg to 146.12±14.85 mmHg) and diastolic (89.58±8.76 mmHg to86.28±4.76 mmHg) blood pressures when the subjects adhered towards the DASH Diet. A significant difference at p=0.05(p=0.039*) in the pre and post-systolic blood pressure was observed in the study. A similar trend was also noticed in the pre and post-diastolic blood pressure which showed a highly significant difference at p=0.05(p=0.002**).Conclusion:It was concluded from the study that the improvement in the DASH Diet adherence score was associated with a reduction in the Clinical blood pressure. There was a reduction in systolic (149.30±18.98 mmHg to 146.12±14.85 mmHg) and diastolic (89.58±8.76 mmHg to 86.28±4.76 mmHg) blood pressures with an improvement of DASH Adherence Score (4.3±1.27 to 6.7±1.19)

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to investigate the effect of a caregiver intensive education program (CIEP) on anxiety, depression, and quality of life (QOL) in patients with drug-resistant temporal lobe epilepsy and mesial temporal sclerosis (TLE-MTS) who underwent cortico-amygdalohippocampectomy (CAH). Ninety patients with drug-resistant TLE-MTS who underwent CAH and their caregivers were recruited and randomly allocated to the CIEP group or control group as 1:1 ratio. Caregivers received the CIEP program or routine guidance/education (control group). Anxiety/depression and QOL in patients at month (M)0, M1, M3, and M6 were assessed by the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) scale and the QOL in Epilepsy Inventory-31 (QOLIE-31), respectively. Treatment efficacy at M6 was assessed by Engel classification. The HADS-anxiety score at M3 (P=0.049) and M6 (P=0.028), HADS-anxiety score change (M6-M0) (P=0.001), percentage of anxiety patients at M6 (P=0.025), and anxiety severity at M6 (P=0.011) were all decreased in the CIEP group compared with the control group. The HADS-depression score at M6 (P=0.033) and HADS-depression score change (M6-M0) (P=0.022) were reduced, while percentage of depression patients at M6 (P=0.099) and depression severity at M6 (P=0.553) showed no difference in the CIEP group compared with the control group. The QOLIE-31 score at M6 (P=0.043) and QOLIE-31 score change (M6-M0) (P=0.010) were both elevated in the CIEP group compared with the control group. In conclusion, CIEP for caregivers contributed to the recovery of anxiety and depression as well as the improvement of QOL in patients with drug-resistant TLE-MTS who underwent CAH.

ABSTRACT

Abstract@#The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs on parenting stress and coping mechanism among parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Our current review retrieved the articles from databases such as CINAHL, Springer, Ovid, PubMed, Google Scholar, and EBSCO host. Only articles published between the years of 2000 and 2018 in these databases were recruited using keywords such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, education program, parenting stress, coping mechanism, and coping strategies. The search generated 17 articles; 8 articles were relevant. This systematic review provides an important opportunity to advance our understanding of the effectiveness of the educational program for reducing parenting stress and improving coping mechanism among parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Nurses could also have a pivotal role in delivering the educational program for parents of children with ASD.

ABSTRACT

This study was performed to determine the effectiveness of oral health education program with a home-using portable device according to the individual oral health status in children.58 children who were 6 – 12 years old were included in this study. All subjects were affiliated to moderate or high caries risk group based on caries risk test. They were divided into 2 groups: (I) home-using portable device group (II) control group. Both groups were evaluated with simple plaque score (SPS) using camera type quantitative light-induced fluorescence device and educated with identical oral health education methods. Subjects in group I were demanded to use a home-using portable device. After 1 month, both groups were re-evaluated.Cariview score that can reflect the acidogenic potential of plaque bacteria was statistically reduced in both groups (p < 0.001). There was a statistically significant difference between two groups in the change of Cariview score (p = 0.022). In group I, the decrease was larger than that in group II. There was no statistically significant difference in the change of SPS (p = 0.937).Oral health education improved oral hygiene status in children. However, this study confirmed that it was much more effective to improve oral health status in children with a home-using portable device in their daily oral hygiene care.
